South African Journal of Enology and Viticulture (SAJEV) of the South African Society for Enology and Viticulture (SASEV) publishes high quality research of South African and international scientists in Viticulture, Enology, Wine Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science. From its first publication in 1980, many ground-breaking and leading papers have been published. The journal is distributed to 23 countries and has more than 1000 subscribers.
Success is driven by good science, advertising and pro-active thinking. The first 25 issues of the journal have been published from papers submitted in hard copy format. This often resulted in papers being delayed. Since 2006 all manuscripts are submitted online to the Editor via ManuscriptCentralTM, an international databank that handles more than 35 000 manuscripts per month and with more than four million registered users. All papers are dealt with according to a strict deadline.
The journal has been registered on CAB Abstracts, a product of CABI Publishing, which is a comprehensive database covering research on biotechnology, plant pathology, crop physiology, horticulture, viticulture, plant breeding, enology, etc. Registration of SAJEV on Web of Science, a database that includes ?Science Citation Index Expanded? provides the reader with the luxury of searching for multidisciplinary articles that covers a specific research field. The latter database covers more than 5 700 major journals across 164 scientific fields, including all aspects of enology and viticulture.
Since the submission of manuscripts has been changed to an online process, the number of papers that have been published doubled. This will, without doubt, increase the impact factor of the journal, i.e. number of scientists reading the papers and referring to articles. Abstracts of papers and posters presented at SASEV conferences and topics selected for full length papers have also been published. We hope to attract more readers by publishing articles on topics in related research fields, e.g. fruit juice preservation, cider fermentations, treatment of cellar waste water, etc. The submission of review papers is, as always, encouraged.
All papers are now submitted electronically at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/sajev. The Guide to Authors is available on the same website, or on the website of the South African Society for Enology and Viticulture (SASEV) (http://www.sasev.org). Papers published in the last 4 volumes of SAJEV have been put on the SASEV website. Access to these papers is also possible through Google.
