Project description
The rationale for using constructed wetlands for treating wastewater is that wetlands are amongst the most biologically active terrestrial ecosystem. Constructed wetlands are created for a specific purpose: in this case distillery wastewater treatment. Research results for existing trial had showed effective removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) by wetlands throughout the year with a retention time of 14 days. The aim of the project is to determine the impact of shorter retention time (7 days) on the performance of constructed wetland in terms of COD removal.
