Project description
The programme is installed on the Internet and can be activated as follows: -
- Open Internet ('Internet Explorer').
- Type in the following address 'http://www.arc.agric.za'.
- Select 'Institutes' on the brown bar on top of the page.
- Select 'Infruitec-Nietvoorbij' under the heading 'Horticulture'.
- Select 'Divisions' on the green bar on the left hand side of the page.
- Select 'Viticulture' at the bottom of the page.
- Select 'Wine Grapes'.
- Select 'Projects'.
- Select 'Development of an electronic wine grape rootstock and scion information system' project. It is 14th on the list.
- Type in 'wynland' as the password and 'Submit'. The password will only be valid for three months, thereafter it will be changed for security reasons.
- To activate the rootstock decision mode, choose Choice of Rootstocks at the top of the green bar on the left hand side of the page. From this point all the different options can be selected. To begin, choose the colour of the cultivar to be cultivated. The name can be selected from the Drop-down Menu beneath the photo
- Select Choose More Options. The relevant soil information can be selected. To bring the soil pest and diseases into account select 'More Options' at the bottom of the page. To start the decision-making process select 'Calculate' at the bottom of the page. A list of the most suitable rootstock(s) will be displayed on the left hand side of the screen and the options on the right hand side. If more information is required double click on the name of the rootstock.
- If information on cultivars is required select 'Wine Grape Cultivars' and then select 'Search Criteria' on the green bar on the left hand side of the page. Select the desired options required.
